Can anyone recommend a good breeder or pet store for me in Northern
California?
I would also appreciate a good book on caring for them.
I've done extensive research on the internet, but would also appreciate
any links.

Just a quick follow-up..
The wife is now calling herself a rat person.
It seems that Pepper and Kia have stolen her heart.
First thing when she gets home she has to hold them and when we found
out Pepper was a boy, first thing she said was that we had to build
another cage and get another male and female so they wouldn't be lonely,
although we since decided to get Pepper neutered.
It's really amazing, cause the wife usually hates animals, but she loves
the rats.

Oh, I knew she would come around, no one can resist those sweet faces
and cuddles.
I'm so glad we have another rat person in the world!!
