Hi there,
Don't put your bird to sleep due to this nasty disease. A while back my 8
cockatiels and 1 parrotlet all had it!!! I had to medicate 9 birds orally
with doxycyclin (which is the suggested treatment for psittacosis and I
would suggest trying this). Baytril is gross! Not to mention that it is very
uncomfortable for the animal when injected. But the number one thing is not
to give up. I did it, for 45 days medicating all of my babies. Now, they are
free of it, at least from the last blood test everything is fine.
My last word of advice, find a new vet. If you do not have avian vets in
your area, get a new one anyway. Your current vet has no ethics.

Thank you. I shall be cheeky and phone my vet and ask her if she's willing
to prescribe Doxycyclin instead of the Baytril. I rang the vets that deal
with bird and they would have to see him to treat him...but it would mean a
2 hour ride in the car in total and it's a very hot day. I can't see that
this would be wise, I'm going to try my old vet first.
