Can anyone tell me whether there are any "cat friendly" ways of dosing my newly diagnosed cat with his pills?
He is a very placid, easy-going cat who should be the easiest cat in the world to get a pill down his throat twice per day, however, this is now the third day, he's getting extremely upset and hiding in places I can't reach when it's time to dose him.
I live in the UK and so far as I can yet discover the only medication here for Feline Hyperthyroidism is Felimazole. These are small sugar-coated tablets. If they were not sugar-coated I would be able to crush them and hide the powder in a treat, or if the medication were in liquid form I could squirt it down his throat - but sugar coated pills!! Vetinerary pharmaceutical manufacturers should use more imagination! His life depends on these pills and I have to find an easier and less traumatic way of getting him to swallow them.
Untypically for a hyperthyroid cat, he's NOT hungry or thirsty - he's become a bag of bones and I'm afraid he'll die of hunger and thirst before the situation can be stabalised with medication.
