hi,
dont let her off the lead at the moment, i had a painful lesson of lettng my 10 month cocker off the lead and he got ran over and killed, its agonising and i should have known better, most spaniels are not obediant until well over the 2 year mark so please take a sore lesson from me. spend some time with her attached to a lead and have a bag of treats i use sausages, open and shut your front door, telling her to stay she will get the hint if every time you do it you reward her., when she waits. give one command , like wait or stay. she is not listening to you when she doesnt come back - start again in your garden, with a long rope or lead, make her return and reward her keeping it short - name and come, followed by come. Lots of praise reward good girl!!
hope this helps. There is a lady who lives along the road from me she has five various colours of springer spaniel, they are all on the lead and she walks out with them all every day. which makes me laugh coz i have one cocker and he trips me up and pulls and now i have just got another one 8 weeks old , better start getting some obediance from the first one before taking them out together or i will fall over them both.! There are a few dog training classes in East kilbride, ask at your vets for any in lvingstone. good luck, they are very good and give you lots of personal advice with your dog. clare

Hi there, Not sure if you are still following this thread but just incase! From what I understand, and I am not sure of this with all breeds of course, but that is pup's way of trying to show 'Alpha' leadership, basically being at the 'head' of the pack. Im not really sure if all breeds do this of course but I know when we got our pup (Wolf/Huskey Hybrid) that was definatly the case, besides how to dominance train her, the breeder also recommended this book 'The Art of Raising a Puppy' by the Monks of New Skete, they breed German Shepards to support their Monistary and have been doing it for many many years, the book will take you through all kinds of different trainings you can do with your pup from crate training to leash training, they also have a video of that book, which shows just how well it works with any breed, it is a definate must read! At 4 months my pup now walks at my side, if she trys to stray past, we give her a slight 'leash pop' and she falls back to my side, the book will explain how to do that. If you do pick up the book I hope it helps you as much as it did for us! Good luck!
