lumpy face - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Paula
Biffa (neutered albino male, about 6) has developed two lumps on his lower
jaw, one either side at the back. He doesn't seem to be having any problems
eating, no bad breath that I can detect and all other habits (sleeping
eating playing) seem to be normal. One poop today was unusual, more noise
than poop, other poops in the pan that *might* be his are a bit loose and
slightly pale.

The 'lump on face situation' has been monitored for about a week - time to
go to the vets.

I'm thinking his glands are up - some kind of low level infection, but he
doesn't feel like he's got a temp.

hmm, any thoughts?

I don't know that the lumps are necessarily painful. Or maybe it's better
to say that a ferret has a high pain tolerance so I'm not sure they show us
that it hurts. George never seemed to be bothered by his lumps (well until
we had one biopsied...that one was nasty and could've killed him because
they almost couldn't stop the bleeding). We had two months with him after
seeing the lumps and then it just attacked him on the inside. Or at least
that's my best guess because it got to the point where he had trouble going
potty and was crying. You know Biffa best...and I'm sure you can tell when
something isn't right with him. So I guess judge him by his actions as to
whether you're handling him to roughly. I think it also depends upon how
large his lumps are too on whether or not they're uncomfortable. Please
keep me posted. It hurts my heart each time I learn of a ferret with
lymphoma. It's awful. So I'm eagerly awaiting Biffa's diagnosis.

*hugs*

The vet phoned yesterday evening (which was nice of him) to say his
diagnosis is confirmed, it is lymphoma. Biffa seems quite happy though
and has shown more interest in life since his steroid shot than for a
long time. :o)

Thanks everyone for your support.

(((((((((Paula)))))))))

I'm sorry. I don't have any experience w/ this disease, but I hope Biffa has
a long, comfortable, & happy life w/ you. Glad the 'roids seem to be
working. Give Biffa a little smoochie for me.

Paula,

I'm so sorry for the diagnosis, but I'm glad that the steroids are helping.
Make him comfortable and enjoy him for as long possible. It's hard to say
when his trip to the Bridge will be especially if the steroids help. Keep
us posted. *HUGS*
