Sam
Hello group. I have not been on for a while. I have two ferrets now, "Dibble
& Helen" and there doing great.
I used to have two Rats who passed in may. When I switched over to a ferret
in May I got "Dibble".
She has been great and we love her to death. October 23 we got Helen who is
deaf and albino.
We have lots of fun with both and they have a nice large multilayer cage
"Baybay's house".
My question is When are Ferrets fully grown ?
My Dibble was born on March 20 and my newer baby was born on June 5.
Some of the older ferrets at the pet stores seem so huge compared to my
pound to pound and a halfer babys.
Are some ferrets just "runts" ?
Its perfectly ok if mine are.
????
Hello msjdoolittle !!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 5.5 yr old girl Ariel has never weighed more than 1.6 lbs, while the
baby, Puck (just a bit over 1.5 yrs now) weighed more than that when he was
3 mos old.

IOW, perfectly normal!

I thought someone on here once said about a year. Except for our first one,
and he'd been at the store a long time (they said), we've always adopted so I
can't say from personal experience.

Probably not. Minya, who passed on at about six, never weight more than a
pound an a half at her very heaviest (during the winters, as I recall) and was
often less than that. Vet said she was healty, just on the small side.

Hi Sam!! Good to see you again!! I remember reading a long time ago that
ferrets were full grown at 6 months, but I don't know if that's really true
or not. Some ferrets stay relatively small. I had one that weighed no more
than 1.4 lbs, and one that weighed nearly 5 lbs. Now that was my smallest
female and my largest male. Just depends on bloodlines and the actual body
type of your ferret. A whippet shaped ferret is going to generally weigh
less than a bulldog shaped ferret. Sounds like you're enjoying your ferrets
though!!

S: I'm not an expert, but based on our Bacchus, they reach adulthood size
at about six months. If yours are still small at this point, I'd say they
will not get much bigger, if at all. Ours is about a year and a half old
now. His weight has fluctuated up and down a bit, depending on how much
chow and exercise he gets, but always close to 3 lbs since he was first
weighed at age 9 mos- CW
