| my six year old staff bull terrier is getting out of control we recently moved house and tried lots of training books to sort out his behavior with no luck. He hasnt always been like this but he has spiralled out of control. He doesnt do it when we go out during the day just at night when we are in bed. I have 2 young children and cant let them go downstairs till i have checked the house. We let him out before bed and we have tried letting him have the upstairs or the downstairs but due to baby gate at top of the stairs he cant have both. Please help i dont want the house to stink out we have only been here a week.:( |

There are two things that may work.
1. Put the dog in a cage at night making sure he has hi beddding, water and some food. Let him out out or take him for a walk before you go to bed but at the same time each night cage the dog. First thing in the moring let him out or take him for a walk. When I say let him out I assume you have a secure garden.
2. If you do not like caging your dog then try placing his food dish on the spot where he does his toilet and alway spray the spot where is dose do it with a good brand of spray which will hide the smell. If he starts going in another place then move his feed bowl to that area spraying the old place so he does not go back to it. It may take a few days or even a week or so but it will work in time. It depends on you. |

Hi there
I was having the same problem but now before I go to bed I bring Bonnie outside in the garden for about 20 mins .. Once it is time I say its "nite nite time" stand up and now like clockwork she goes for the back door and I let her run around and play outside saying "it's pee time" This even works when I go to my folks for the weekend. She has come on so much my parents are amazed as I was very distressed with her .. now she is like a new dog :-) She gets rewarded with a few choc drops and with sleeping on my bed when she is good with lots of cuddles :-) I've often woken up in the nite as I am a lite sleeper and off she hops down from the bed and straight to the garden when she needs to go ..
It will get better believe me .. If I can do it so can you .. Bonnie was my first dog and she was an older one ex a puppy farm :-)
Don't give up :-)
