border collie cross puppy nipping - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
rory
Hi I am looking for advice; we have a male five month old border cross collie which we have owned for four weeks; he is great fun and we love him to bits. One thing we are a little concerned about is he tends to nip particularly when his feet are being dried after being outside. Any suggestions or ideas how to discourage this as we really do not want this to become a habit and or the possibility of him nipping say a child. Many thanks Rory

Some dogs just don't like having their feet touched, especially if it's not something that's been done since they were really young. When you are just hanging out with your dog, touch his feet gently, and when he lets you do it without nipping be sure to give big praises. Try to do it regularly, and it might help him get used to it. While you're at it, play with his ears a lot too, since that can also be a tough spot for them and a favorite of little kids!
