GOOD GOLLY MISS mOLLY
Last week I was sitting in my study when I heard 2 big helicopters. Looking
out of the window I saw 2 large military choppers coming very very very low.
They went right over my cottage scaring me to death. I could actually feel
the rotor strokes!
I shot outside to try to calm the birds and shook my fist at the pilots.
Sadly, the male from one of the pairs of caiques smashed into the wire in
terror and killed himself. God I was angry. I phoned the MOD (military of
defence) complaints line, and fired off a letter with a photo of the dead
bird. Then phoned about frantically trying to find another male as 'cherry'
was calling and calling.
Eventually phone my dealer friend who had a number of a man not far from me
who had a spare male. Went to look and bought it. I took it straight to the
vet next day for a check up and to remove the ring which has been put on
and squashed so it was too tight. After some struggle, the vet managed to
remove the ring and gave the bird a clean bill of health. He was a bit thin
and not very clean. I put him into the aviary with 'cherry' and watched
them. Bless, he was so excited. He flew right over to her and started
jumping up and down on the perch. She looked at hiim as though to say "stop
playing silly sods, I'm not impressed", but when I checked them last thing
they were snuggled together fast asleep.
I was telling my brother about the 2 choppers, and he asked if it was about
midday. I said yes. He said they were called 'jolly green giants' and that
they were American and flying well below the legal 100 feet. Bob was in the
RAF and now works for the government at an RAF base so knows about these
things. I intend to let the MOD know and they can sort it all out. Now if
these 2 chopper pilots wanted a closer look at the animals here, they only
had to drive over and I would have been happy to show them around. I saw
them again the next day in the fields across from me, flying just as low.
Low enough to raise dust swirls in fact.
Not only do I want these 2 joyriders carpetted, I want an apology from them
and I want compensation for the bird I had to pay out for to replace the one
they killed.

Molly: I hope you get your apology and compensation. There was no excuse for that!

I expect it willt ake time going through the proper channels.
I was watching both caiques today and am happy to say they have bonded
quickly. They were mirroring each others actions like synchronised perching.
One turned one way, the other copied. One opened its wings, the other did
too, one yawned, the other yawned.
Will let you know if I get my apology.
