You guys on rpb are gonna have to put us, florida residents, in your
thoughts and prayers. Hurricane Francis is coming straight at us and it's
gonna hit us hard. So, unless a miracle happens, we're gonna get smashed.
They started evacuating different areas yesterday. They're still not sure
where it's gonna make landfall. But regardless, it's gonna be bad.
Hope everyone is well and safe and we'll chat again soon...
Peace

Good luck and hang on tight! Funny thing is, I was going to move down to
Gainesville in a week or two, but decided to wait until after Christmas
because of Charlie, now I'm glad I did decide to wait!

I know Mamabird is in the area, anyone else going to get hit?

Me, too, I expect, if the storm doesn't change its track significantly

Well, I'm glad to report we're safe and sound. Down here in Fort
Lauderdale we did not get hit that hard (at least in my immediate area).
Some downed trees, minor structural damage and there are still some people
without power. So, we got lucky.
Now, we'll see where this next one lands, it should be here by this coming
weekend. Yippee! :(
Hope everyone else in the Sunshine state fared as well as we did.

priorities right).

We're ok too. Gotta say it was a helluva scary ride... just me and my 83
yr. old mom way out here in the country by ourselves! *All* the local
shelters said No Pets, so we stayed put!
We were without power for more than 48 hours, lost everything in the
fridge/freezer. Pretty much the same here as what Marco described down
where he is. The yard is littered with debris and tree branches. I've got
several huge trees close to the house that were my biggest concern but
luckily they all held up.
Some folks had it far worse!

The birds were nervous and barely ate for 3 days, but did okay overall. I
kept their blinds down to calm them and as added protection in case
something blew against a window. I made sure I had plenty of fresh
water/food on hand for them too.
Yesterday the National Guard was handing out free water, ice and food at a
local shopping center so I got some in case that next big boy comes this
way.
GO AWAY IVAN !!!!!!!!
My next priority is to buy a generator - IF I can find one. We had a brand
new one but the ex took it when he moved out, dammit.

OT: It's looking like I'm going to have to have surgery for the cancer. Am
still undergoing tests right now to determine the best course of action.
I've lost count of how many doctors I've been to and how many tests have
been run these past few weeks. Right now my Oncologist is having me
evaluated by a surgeon specializing in cardiac, vascular and thoracic
surgery. I should know something for sure next week.
The ex has already assured me he'll come feed the animals while I'm in the
hospital and/or recovering from surgery, like he did earlier this year.

I read all your replies to my previous post seeking advice about what to do
about the birds if it gets to the point where I'm too sick to take care of
them... or if I'm terminal.
(Thanks! You guys gave me lots to consider!)

I think about it constantly but don't want to make a premature decision
that I'll regret later. So for right now things will remain as they are. If
I DO find out I'm terminal I'll do whatever it takes (in the birds' best
interest of course) to make sure the ex and his new "she's just a friend"
wife do NOT get the birds when I die. (Mr. Wheeler, I may be contacting you
for more info about your suggestion.)

Ironically it was the new "she's just a friend" wife (yes, she used to be a
friend of mine) and her now-deceased 5th husband who gave me my first bird,
Cheeky the cockatiel. (I still have him. :-))
They were playing backyard breeder at that time. Never hand fed the babies
or anything, just constructed a small aviary with a few pairs of 'tiels. A
"throw in some seed and hope they breed" operation. They thought there was
good money to be made in breeding "exotic birds." HA!
I knew nothing about birds at that time and they knew even less. Once I
started learning about bird care I realized they were doing everything
wrong and sought to educate them. But by then they had decided that "birds
weren't their thing" - too much trouble - and got rid of them.
And I want this woman to get my birds? Not a chance in hell!
