Rowdy
My two budgies are of the right age + and are in very good condition. They
are very affectionate towards each other and have a nest box, but they
haven't even tried to lay any eggs this past season. I was wondering if
someone could tell me what else I could do or have not done to get them to
lay eggs. Thanks in advance.

How big is the cage? Do you have a sizable flight aviary for them?

Try dimming the lights and put on some Barry White.

Are you sure they're male+female?

They're colony breeders. Get more budgies.

I assume you are feeding them the right diet. Have you tried increasing the
amount of protien you are feeding them and adding a Vit. E supplement to
their diet? Both encourage breeding in birds. If that doesn't work go with
the mood music :P

I hate to acknowledge the fact that you have hit the nail on the head.
Another pair at least will encourage them to breed.

Rowdy
Well that is quite a few suggestions. Yes I know they are male and female
and they are getting all the proper food. They are healthy and active. The
cage is of good breeding size. They get egg food twice a week some times 3
times per week. I quests the next thing is candles wine and fine dinning
with a waiter to serve there needs. Maybe a reservation at the best hotel.

Try giving them egg food every day to get them to breed. The increased
amount to protein will signal to them that there is enough high-protein
foods to feed their chicks, as well as help the female to build up for
egg-laying. Also you can try giving them scrambled egg with the shell
crushed and scrambled with the egg. I assume you are using a calcium
supplement as well.

So what exactly is "all the proper food"? And how big is the cage?
You will still need another pair of budgies to encourage them to breed.

Rowdy
Proper food means a good seed quality, fresh vegetables every day, cuttle
bone, mineral block, millet(every other day). I will try the egg every day,
although my other birds are providing me with lots of babies with the
routine we already have in place. In fact I'm trying to get some of them
shut down before winter comes about, but I wanted some budgies for winter
set in. I have 42 birds of various kinds and all are healthy, active, messy
and noisy.

Does one of your budgies have blue around it's nostrils (just above beak)
and the other one have brown? If they both have the same nostril colour, it
means that they're both male (blue) or both female (brown)

Not in all cases, certainly.

How do you sex the budgies in these other cases?
