I have a lonely red rump hen, her partner died a few months back and due to
us relocating I havnt had chance to get a replacement bird. The local
breeder I initialy got the pair from tells me that it is pretty safe to put
any similar sized bird of a different breed in with her but someone else
advised me that I can only put another red rump in there.
There seems to be a shortage of red rump cocks around here, I can only find
them available in pairs so I was thinking of getting a bourke cock instead
as they are pretty similar birds. The hen that I have is around 3 years old
and is not hand tame but she is friendly and sweet natured and she is in a
huge parrot cage. Am I safe getting a bourke or should I try to find
another red rump?

The redrump would kill the bourke no matter how big the cage is.

Do not know much about the red rumps, but we did keep a mixed flight with a
Bourke, English Budgie, Teil and Turquisine for years, they got along fine,
all old men, all died of old age..........(except the teil still have him)

Redrumps are very aggressive to other birds.
