Parakeet Cere color - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
PEPPER1960
I have two parakeets that are not the "regulation" blue or green...they have
been "fooled around with" color wise. One looks like a bluebird, and the other
is yellow with a green cape. Do the Cere's of these birds still turn blue or
brown like normal parakeets? My friend has a yellow Keet with red eyes and a
pink Cere so we don't know what is what, and I saw some albino ones at a pet
shop with red eyes. My husband said maybe we can look at their little organs!
Oh boy, isn't that a picture? Anyway, does anyone know bout the cere
coloration of mutated birds?

Last I heard, there are some exceptions to the cere colour in some mutations.
I have a beautiful white/blue/grey budgie which has retained the bluish-white
cere typical in younger females. I'm fairly certain the bird *is* a female,
only because she and an older male have been "together" for some time now...

Your blue budgie and green and yellow pied budgie should have normal
coloured ceres. I.E. dark brown for adult female and dark blue for adult
male.

In the lutinos and albinos, the hens have the normal hen
colors on the ceres (whitish to beige to tan to brown). The
males have a pink/lavender colored cere.
