I just went to Todd Marcus Mirds Exotic in Cinnaminson, NJ and they have
notices up about Bird Paradise in Burlington, NJ. It turns out the reason
Bird Paradise has been closed it because the birds there have the "Parrot
Flu". It has been closed down by the health department. One of the workers
at Todd Marcus said the birds will be destroyed.

They has a clipping of the story from the local paper. Their website is
http://www.courierpostonline.com . I will search for the article later and
post it if I find it.

That's sad :-(

Parrot Flu is the common name for some airborne disease. I am not too sure
about what exactly it is. I am sure if you call Todd Marcus
(http://www.thebirdstore.com/birdstore.htm), you can ask them about the
article and disease. They are very knowledgeable.

Hi - I'm new to this forum and I was reading some of the old messages. Any
further word on this? I heard it these owners were railroaded by a
competitor store.

I am reading the different accounts about this store. I have been there
numerous times and I love it. I called the health department. NO BIRDS
were destroyed; in fact, they said no birds even tested positive - they
all tested NEGATIVE. They apparently had an possible exposure by a bird
that allegedly came in for grooming. As a precautionary measure, they said
they closed the store and treated the birds to make sure that none did
come down with psittacosis. I saw what you wrote about the other store. I
was there the other night and saw the signs. It sickened me and I walked
out. I don't intend to shop there. It would seem that Mr. Marcus may have
been gloating. So, I would have to agree with your comment about $$$.
Seems the good guy is the one who took a loss and closed because he
obviously does care about his birds. I will continue to shop at Bird
Paradise. I take a different bridge, but it's worth the extra ride to go
there.
