My friend said there is no aviary vet in his area (he lives in the
Sierra mountains).

I'm sorry to say that I don't hold out much hope for this little bird. :(

He isn't going to survive at this point, and without a vet, you're not
going to perform a miracle (although it's too late for a vet at this
point too, IMHO). Please, put the poor thing out of his misery!!
It's the very last act of kindness you can perform for him!!
