Finches don't like new bird bath - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page

I have 2 male zebra finches. Previously, they bathed in one of the
large covered feeding cups that came with the cage (I use vertical
water/feeding tubes). It was a tight fit but they loved cleaning up in
it. Recently, I bought an actual cage-mountable bird bath. It is
similar to this one but not exactly the same (close enough for
comparison):

I have yet to see them go in it and I believe it's been a few weeks. I
can understand anything new may take some adjustment time, but it
seems they would have dared to go in my now. Ive tried placing millet
next to and IN it, to lure them and still nothing. One thing I did
think of was that the cup they used to use sat inside the cage. This
one sits outside the cage. Is it possible theyre simply unaware they
enter the bath?

If anyone has suggestions, I'd gladly appreciate them!

What color is the plastic bottom? My finch pair are petrified of
anything red, for some unknown reason.
Mine also have an outside the cage bath, but it's transparent, pale
yellow, a solid unit.. They really love it. Maybe yours can't tell
there's water in that container, considering the colored bottom.
Finches love water and love to bathe. If you're sure they aren't using
it, you may need to go back to what you used before or buy a different
bath.

This is the one I have, except mine has a slight yellow tint to it.
Very easy to see the water, and they love it.

It's a brown base with a tanish/see through top. Ironically after I
posted the message, they started using it. I dont think they knew how
to get into it because there wasnt a perch in front of it. So I bought
a short perch, lined it up and soon after they were in there splashing
away. They really seem to enjoy it. The only thing I dont like is that
it doesnt fit completley flush against the cage, but there's no way
they could get out so I'm not too concerned.
