I have 3 parakeets. One I have had for almost a year and the other two I
have had for about a month. My oldest one "Peanut" I was able to hand train
in less than 2 weeks. With my newer ones, "Charlie" and "Woodstock", I can
not seem to get them trained. Even when I just put my hand in there for
them to get use to they get all "spastic". They are still very young. Is
it possible that some just can't be trained or is there some other way I
could try. I have even put some millet in my hand to see if that would work
but it hasn't. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Missy :)
I went to google and used the search term [taming budgies] and there are
quite a few articles on the subject. I wouldn't do anything that makes them
"spastic", as every time you do you are reinforcing that your hand is a Very
Scary Thing. They are telling you that you have to move more slowly with
them.
Another thought is that when you have 2 budgies together and one is
frightened, the other will also be frightened; this is a defensive flock
behavior and necessary to survival, and they can't help it, but this fact of
"budgieness" doesn't help you to tame them. If you can work with one away
from the other so they don't respond to the other's fear, it may help also.
Lastly, spend a lot of quality time with Peanut where the other 2 can watch
you together, to help get the point across that you aren't a predator but a
flock member.
With a lot of patience you can win them over. I hope that you can also find
some good sources of information through a search; just remember there's a
lot of bad information out there too, so you have to be discerning...but
there were nearly 1000 hits on that phrase and presumably at least some of
them will offer helpful information :).
Best of luck with your 2 new little guys!
