My GSD has a tumour - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page

On Sunday we noticed a very large lump on the side of my dog's neck. She is 8 years old. We took her to the vet on Monday. She had a temperature of 103 and the vet hoped it would be an abcess although it was not painful for Elsa. He arranged for her to have an xray and a biopsy done the following day. When I collected her yesterday after her op I was told that it was not an abcess and that I would have to wait 7/10 days for the results. Can someone please tell me the difference between a tumour and a cyst? We have also been asked to take Elsa back tomorrow (Thursday). I have an awful feeling he is going to tell me that the prognosis is not good. When we took her on Monday he said that the lump was in an awkward place and he may not be able to remove it. Prior to the lump arriving Elsa had been off her food and was drinking an lot of water. She is now eating and not drinking so much. I am very worried about Elsa and would value any information anyone can give me (even if it is bad news).

Many thanks
