Sitting/boarding input - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Aaron
I am looking for input/suggestions for ferret sitting/boarding.
I have a single ferret, less than a year old. He has his rabies and
distemper shots.
I am planning a trip for 4 days in the beginning of August, and I can't
take him with us. I am located in Portland, Oregon.

I thought about boarding the ferret in a local shelter.
But I'm concerned about contagious deseases.

There are 2 shelters here, in Portland, Oregon. The Oregon Ferret
Shelter and the Cascade Ferret Network Shelter. When I talked to the OFS
a while ago, they didn't seem concerned about contagious diseases,
although I didn't question them about it. The implied that I can just
bring my ferret in and board him. On the other hand, the CFN is very
cautious about diseases. For me to board the ferret I need to have
documented proof of ADV testing (no home test).

The pet sitter idea seems better. But, I'm concerned about how much time
the sitter can give. A full time sitter, is probably way too expensive.
And I don't know if having some one come in once or twice a day would be
enough, to keep my fuzzie from getting depressed. He's used to me being
home with him all day.

Also, unfortunately, I don't have any friends in the area that are
willing to do any sitting or boarding.

I think, ideally, I'd like to find someone in Portland who has 1 or 2
fuzzies, disease free, that would take mine in for a few days.
