We bought them a plush dog toy yesterday that squeeks, and it's funny Spaz
just starts chattering away, Fearless got a time out for biting, she bt both
me and my wife, pretty good at that, I kind of think that might be her
motherly instinct so I don't mind so much, but it's just funny they can be
all over and when you squeek this toy they all come runing, we go them a
bigger one so maybe they won't be able to get it in the tube they like to
hide things in.
I just though t it was entertaining to listen to Spaz chatter.

I have 2 particular ferrets (Buffy and Scooby) out of all 20, who will
climb your leg and bite, when you squeak a toy. It's not all squeak
toys, only a low pitch squeak. They actually hate it. The others just
come running to see what it is and then like "oh, just another squeak
toy" and they go on playing.

Pam & The 20 Maniacs

Some ferrets react really strongly to squeakie toys. There are theories
that possibly it hurts their ears, and also that possibly it reminds them of
kits and they are trying to protect them. At any rate, I wouldn't keep
squeaking the thing if it is annoying or upsetting your ferret. What you
might consider doing is keeping it in case you can't find your ferret
sometime, squeak the toy and they will come running. Just a
suggestion.......

We only have one that reacts to the squeaky toy with biting the heck out of
you and I agree that if it bothers the ferrets ears or makes them angry,
they shouldn't be used. Some suggest that you use them to train them to
come to you, but we managed to train them all to come to us at the sound of
a pill bottle being shaken. A few times of doing that and then rewarding
them with some ferret vite or raisins...now we have no problem doing the
head count or finding a "lost" ferret.

It even worked when one of the daredevils decided to take a plunge from a
window that happened to have a small hole in the screen...landed (safely
thank God) on the cat (who was seriously offended) and then took off through
the yard dancing and dooking. We live in a wooded area and there are
predators everywhere. I was horrified. I ran ouside with a bottle of
Tylenol...shook it and she ran right up to me. I was so thankful that I
took the time to train them that way. I would have been beside myself with
grief if something had happened to her.
