Pam
Okay, first, let me say -- I had several ferrets coming to me who were
on only Meow mix! So, needed to come up with something, didn't want to
cage and have umpteen bowls! So, now I am feeding (everything mixed in
a 16 lb. buckets): Totally Ferret, Zupreem, whiskas (mainly for color);
one small handful of raisins and one very small handful of butterscotch
chips (like choc. chips). I now fill their dishes 3 times a day and
everything is eaten. I have 7 large dishes. Even my use to be Twiggy
is plumbing out beautifully.

Now; here's the part people think is a no-no. Which I think is actually
helping. Like I said all the years I have ever had 1 adrenal ferret,
and she is one that came to me at age 6. Never had insulinoma or other
cancers. They get 4 instant packs of oatmeal every morning. Made with
water. Only in 4 medium size dishes (for 20 ferrets). I add wheat germ
to it. Also, I do feed several critters that found their way to my
porch. A oppossum, 2 raccoons and 4 skunks. They've been coming up for
years, all eat together!! They also get the same as the ferrets, except
I mix their oatmeal with the dry food, at times.

Pam

Hmmmmmmmm............interesting actually! We've all heard how good
oatmeal is for us, so I suppose it does the same for our furry friends?
(lowers cholesterol, cleans arteries, good for heart, etc) Wheat germ -
wow, talk about good for us. Maybe we're all too closed minded on the 'meat
only' diet......

Thanks for sharing your 'secret' with us, Pam. I would never have considered
butterscotch drops! Wowl I, for one, won't say anything negative about
it - I've not had a long lived ferret yet...........(but they may be getting
some oatmeal in the near future, so we'll see about that........)
