Bruno can track Thomas again..... - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Jinxie
Bruno came to us March 23, 2003. He had gotten away from his Mommy &
was in the care of a very nice lady. We met him & Thomas, who had
also found wandering around on his own, on the same day & although
Bruno was already considered elderly & there were signs of insulinoma
we took them both in so they could have a forever home.

Thomas left us in March of this year. He was only 4.

Bruno got his insulinoma under control with pred & diazoxin. Although
the latter had to be compounded to taste like liver or he'd spit it
out on you. He was good at getting it in your hair. We called him
Bruno the Badass from day one. He was obviously a spoiled, lonely
only fuzzums & would tolerate Thomas not at all! They had separate
play times & Bruno would put his nose to the ground & track everywhere
that Thomas had been that day when it was his turn to play. Twice, in
the beginning when we tried to introduce them he'd scruff Thomas &
shake him really badly. Once he bit so hard he didn't break the
skin, but made like a blood blister on the neck, so that was the end
of that. He never liked any of the babies, so we always made sure he
was asleep & in his cage when the others came out to play. He'd stalk
all of them.

In the last few months Brunos spleen enlarged so much he got to where
he kinda pedaled around on his tummy. Being as he was 8 we decided
not to have the spleen removed although he'd been under anesthesia
earlier in the year to get a growth removed from under his chin. He
just saw his Doc last week & she pronounced him fit as a fiddle with
the most excellent blood panel she'd seen on an elder.

Last night he went off his food which was a mix of A/D, chicken baby
food & heavy cream. He'd only eat the A/D if his baby food was added.
He always was a picky little thing. This afternoon he refused his
water as well as his food. I had force fed & watered him last night &
today a few times. I wrapped him in his favorite hammock & tucked him
into his cage about 2pm today (pst), so that I could keep a better eye
on him without having to dig thru all the closets to find him. About
3:30 he started to whimper & cry. I immediately called the vet & said
we'd be in. She gave him some pain meds so he'd not be in pain &
tried to put the catheter in. His BP was pretty much nonexistent by
then. My son, who was the primary meds giver & food feeder held him &
said goodbye. My daughter couldn't go because it was too hard & today
is her birthday. She was chief fuzzie bather when he needed
assistance. Doc said she could give him a shot in his abdomen, but
that it could take a few minutes to work. She said the fastest was to
give a little gas & then inject directly into the heart. I can't
remember all the med names right now. I have a headache. He was gone
in a second. He's no longer in pain. We are, but that's okay. We'll
deal with it. He was my handsome boy & if I said where's Moms freckle
nose he'd come waddlin' over to me. We made sure he got to go
outside. There was no cage for him today. We carried him in his
favorite hammie.

In a place of rainbows,Bruno dances and plays. He is smiling, because he left
with a heart full of love. Now a new bright star is shining in the night sky.
Watch carefully and you'll see him winking. When you feel that unexplained
warm feeling in your ear, that's him saying hello. When you feel something
brush your ankle, he stopped by to say hi.

I'm so sorry to hear of Bruno :o( Oh, they do really live in our
hearts. I'm positive he had a loving home and now, no more pain, but
romping and playing.
