Hi All:

Sorry I've been so scarce lately. My trusty old laptop just died a slow &
irritating death, & I just went out & got a new one today. I'm still trying
to get it all set up, & all the stuff I pulled off my old one before it
croaked loaded into this one.

Kids are fine, fuzzies are mostly fine (we're waiting on blood test results
on Oberon, to see if he might be going adrenal - <sigh>), & life is about
the same as usual.

Gots a lot of catching up to do, so......

Lin, Ariel, Oberon, & Max

Welcome back, lin!! Been wondering where you disappeared to! Glad everyone
is okay.....

hugs,
jumpingmouse, kylie & gilbert

Well BITCH BITCH BITCH!!!! Can't make *some* people happy, I guess! <snort>
:-D

Kids are doin great. It's summer vacation here - & I can't wait for summer
school to start! Anton will start kindergarten this summer, Kristina will be
taking some classes to work on reading, & they'll both be taking Ballet
class from the girl who bought my Ballet studio almost 5 yrs ago (ACK!!).
I'll also be taking some Ballet & Jazz classes - I'm starting to feel like a
slug!

It's been not quite 4 mos since they've been in the US, & they don't even
*speak* Russian anymore! We don't want them to lose it entirely, so we've
just ordered some Russian language movies & cartoons for them on DVD. We
asked them if they wanted them, & they said yes, so they should get here in
a few days. Both of them have a really good understanding of English, but
Kristina's usage is still far better than Anton's. Seems that the more words
he learns, the less intelligable his speech becomes. We have him scheduled
for a speech eval next Tues, & a hearing eval the following day, just to be
sure.

Kristina turned 9 on the 19th, & had a birthday party the Sat before, for
the kids at school. Quite a few came, as well as just about all her teachers
(who make it a policy not to go to student b'day parties, cos they don't
want to look like they're playing favorites - but they all said that, for
her, they'd make an exeption. They all just love her, as does everyone who's
met her. She also has quite a few boys who have crushes on her!).

Both of them are still very well adjusted kids. Kristina misses her friends
at the detsky dom (orphanage) in Ust-Kamenogorsk, but there are 2 kids from
there (brother & sister) who were adopted a couple mos ago, living just east
of Cleveland, & we're making plans to meet up. They were in the same
"groupa" in the orphanage, so they all know each other very well. She's
talking a little more about her past, although it's all about he detsky dom,
not about her mother. (She thinks her mother's dead - I imagine the
orphanage people told her that after they were taken away from her, so she
wouldn't wonder why her mother wasn't there for her anymore. As far as we
know, she's still alive.)

They've both been to Cedar Point 4 times so far this summer (we got season
passes), & it turns out that Kristina is a roller coaster MANIAC!!! Jim's
thrilled about that.....I love coasters, too, but since my back surgery last
spring, I'm not sure which ones I can still ride or not (back feels great,
BTW. I fell hard on my ass rollerblading last wk, w/ no ill effects). I
haven't been to the Point yet this yr - Jim's taken them up w/ friends, so I
could have some ME days!

That's about all I can report on right now - it's been much smoother sailing
than we were prepared for. No post-institutioanlization issues whatsoever,
they just roll w/ *everything*.

Meanwhile, however, an hr before Kristina's b'day party, water started
pouring out of our entryway ceiling - the pipes draining out of the bathtub
upstairs finally gave up the ghost. Since we already knew we had to replace
the original soil pipe running from the upstairs to the basement, we had it
all fixed at once - meaning we had to have huge holes torn out of our walls
in our bedroom, the entry hall, & the basement. The wallpaper, although only
about 4 yrs old, is now no longer made, so we get to repaper *again*!
****.... And, on this Fri, my Mom's having back surgery. Arthritis, from
about L4- S1, just like Dad & I. Could be anywhere from 3 to 6 hrs in
surgery, w/ plates, screws, & the whole 9 yds. All started when she was
walking the dog in the park, & she slipped on the edge of the sidewalk &
fell - it all just gave way. She also tore her right rotator cuff in the
process, but the back's the priority. Fortunately, some people we know were
also walking that morning, & they scraped her up & got her home. So anyway,
after Fri, all 3 of us will have had back surgery for arthritis, & neck
surgery (fusions w/ plates & screws) in our necks. Talk about weird!

There's other news, but it's late, so I'll post it tomorrow.

Lin, Ariel, Oberon, & Max

PS: Hey Molly - "tesco.net"?? Do they let ya order yer groceries online?

Whew, now THAT was a 'newsy' catch-up! Thank you! It's so good to hear
the kids are doing so well. It just amazes me that they don't suffer from
more culture shock than that. I guess kids really are pretty tough. It
sounds like they are having a wonderful time and becoming real typical
American kids. :-) So happy for all of you.

Well madam, *that's* more like it.
Yup I can order groceries online if I want but cos I'm such a bloody
tightwad I prefer to go into the store myself to check out the reduced stuff
and special offers :0)
Sorry to hear about yer mum . I fell base over apex on Monday.I had been
really busy unloading and erecting poultry housing as I have started a new
hobby, and my legs were shaking cos as usual I did too much too quickly and
as I stepped out of the back door to take some water out to the bantams,
over I goes. Cor you should have seen the dogs run lol. They looked
horrified and weren't sure that I wasn't about to visit some terrible
torture upon thier naughty yapping asses or just muckin' abart hehe.
Bloody dogs. The puppies decided it would be a lark to stand underneath my
bedroom window and 'yip yip' at the dawn chorus at 4 am this morning and now
I'm knackered and have bags under my eyes big enough to get a weeks worth of
Tesco shopping lol.

Hey Molly - why does a chicken coup have 2 doors?

Cos if it had 4, it'd be a sedan!

Hey! Fer criminy's sake, mix in some base/basket/foot ball for Anton,
ok? Ballet's fine for girls, but boyz need a sport where they get to
knock other guys down. Takes the edge off. I can teach him a killer
brush-back pitch, elbow-hook, or clothes-line tackle if you want.
Sports rule; ballet drools. :p....

Good to hear the adoption thing worked out,

his sense of humor! ;-) hehehe Good to see you back though!! Anyways,
I'm glad the kids are adjusting so well! You'll have to keep us updated on
Oberon. How's your Mom doing?

a-HEM!!!!

First of all, Anton *wants* to take Ballet so bad he's asking every day,
"when I go dance w/ Jenny?" When I tell him he doesn't start until the 21st,
he whines, "oh, maaaaaaan!"

Second of all, I'll trade my dance-related scars w/ *any* footballer, *any*
day. 9 toes broken (11 breaks in all), I-don't-know-how-many toenails fallen
off, same w/ sprained ankles, 2 Morton's neuroma's removed from the balls of
my feet, one shattered & rebuilt ankle, 2 knees w/ torn cartilage (one had
surgery), one shredded gracilis muscle, one severely bruised achille's
tendon, plus the neck & back surgeries. Ballet is football, w/ nicer outfits
& only slightly less mud. Go tell Lynn Swann he's a puss, & see what
happens!

And thirdly, you'd have *no* doubts about his testosterone level if you
could see his legs. He falls off everything, & rams himself into things
full-tilt. His shins look like someone attacked him w/ a ball peen hammer!

Besides, I can clearly envision him pushing all the girls down in Ballet
class, as well as the other 2 boys who'll be in his class. :-D

Thanks! It really *is* going well.

Alright, alright... I'm just saying a baseball glove wouldn't hurt.
Some other Tonys have been good. Messiers Gwynn, Oliva, Conigliaro,
Fernandez...

Funny you'd pick Lynn Swann, as he was known for his graceful
athleticism and courage for running routes "over the middle." As to
your poor bod, makes me think of that poster of the ballerina. You've
probably seen it. It shows her legs from the knees down, ankles
crossed and toes pointed toward each other. Her leggings(?) are
tattered and her shoes look like someone ran them thru the garbage
disposer then gave them to the dog. My feet hurt looking at it.

Boyz will be boyz... Sounds like you've got a catcher on your hands.
Or maybe a linebacker if he's got the size, or center fielder if he's
got the wheels. Don't blame me for trying.

Back in college one of my buddies enrolled in a ballet class and
naturally got a lot of guff from me and the other insecure male dopes
in the dorm. When he came back from his first day we were about to let
him have it again. He held up his hand to stop us and said, "26 girls
and 4 guys. Need I say anything more?"

Point made.

Good. And I confess I don't have the guts to do what you guys did. I'd
rather face Randy Johnson from the left side.

How 'bout "Puck?" Or am I mixing Shakespeare?

Gots no objection to sports. But he wants to try Ballet right now, & that's
cool w/ me.

He also danced for the Dallas/Fort Worth Ballet in the off-season. A of mine
used to teach Ballet to the old Cleveland Browns. And I used to give classes
to hs athletes (football players, wrestlers) who'd concentrated so much on
bulking up, that they couldn't use the backs of their legs - can't run,
can't get out of wrestling holds, etc. Ballet taught them how to be strong,
but still be able to s-t-r-e-t-c-h.

"Legwarmers", by Harvey Edwards. I have several of his posters, & I have
that particular pic on a sweatshirt. Poor company rats & college dance
students (including me) used to wrap duct tape around the toes of their
shoes, to cover the holes we wore in them & delay having to shell out for
new ones.

Oh wow!!!!!!! What a great name! Puck is from "Midsummer Night's Dream",
which is where I got Oberon's name (Ariel came from "The Tempest", Max was
pre-named by Jean Caputo-Lee).

Lin, Ariel, Oberon, Max, & PUCK!!!

Heh, heh......

Yeah, but he's deaf.

And it's a good thing the kids can pronounce the letter "P" clearly, or I'd
have *another* problem on my hands!

Lin, Ariel, Oberon, Max, & Puck
