I finally made a "fallen log" for my ferts. They love it, running up and
down the inside and on top of it. It's just a 5' long pvc pipe with a 6"
diameter that I covered with carpet inside and out and lean up in a
corner of the room. It was a cheap and simple project that was well
worth the effort, watching them play on it. I think I need to make a
perch at the top though.
I also picked up a big rubbermaid container and filled it with odorless
corn cob litter. They love playing in this, especially Priss. She likes
to stick her head under and let me cover the rest of her with it, then
after a minute she'll poke her little head out and look around. Very
funny to see.
I made a big blunder Monday. I thought I would do a little spring
cleaning in their room including using a carpet cleaner on the floor. It
made more noise than I expected. I turned it on and started cleaning a
little section of the floor. It wasn't long before I "sensed" something
as wrong. I stopped and looked in the cage and Buster was hiding in the
tubes I installed around the top of the cage with Priss lying on top of
him. I thought for moment he was dead as he wasn't moving, not even to
blink. Priss finally came out-it didn't really bother her, she was just
comforting Buster-and I could finally see Buster moving; he was shaking
horribly. It took what seemed like 30 minutes or so to get him out of
those tunnels. I had to put him and Priss in their carrier and place
them away from the noise to finish.
I honestly thought he had be scared to death (literally). I should have
known better as he has always been very timid, especially with loud
noises. He's gotten better over the last month, but... I need to be more
carefull. I was afraid this might cause a regression, but if anything,
he seems more comfortable around me than before. He's still not fully
trusting, but much better.
Randy.

Poor guy! Glad he was OK.
It's amazing how varied ferrets are in their emotional conditioning: Avalon
likes to attack our vacuum cleaner, *especially* when it's switched on.
"Roar at me, will you? I'll show you!"
She has attempted to drag it into a corner several times.

lmao!! that's EXACTLY what Penny does! she is so tiny, but has absolutely
no fear of that big, noisy contraption - she attacks it ferociously!

Princess Cherry goes after the vacuum with every bit of
fierceness she can muster, but she's even worse with a broom! LOL
She actually grabs on and I drag her on the broom.

Oh, Priss loves the broom (to my sometimes annoyance). She chases,
lunges, and grabs on for all she's worth while I sling her back and
forth. Priss and Buster also like getting into the little garbage bags I
use (with or without the garbage). When they do I pick up one side in
each hand and swing it back and forth like the ole Jolly Roger ride at
Six Flags making a 180 degree arc till they reach a frenzy. Then I park
it on the ground and watch 'em totter out. Fun.

I got a rubbermaid container, and put a hole in the side, then 2 holes in
the top, and put about 5 inches of sand in there, they love that, as for
the vacum they love that thing, well except when it attacks, but they they
try to fight with the nozzle, it's funny to watch them attack it...

Do they tunnel in sand or dirt? Mine love to bury their heads in the
corn cob litter, but it isn't dense enough for them to actually tunnel
in. I'd love to fix them something to tunnel in, but only if they would
use it differently than the litter--the litter is much easier to cleanup.

Yeah they dig in there, and try to tunnel through it, they just have a
blast in there, I toss a few toys in and they have more fun.. Those little
cat balls wark, or I got some of the small plastic easter eggs, and put a
few drops of ferretone in them and let them go, fearless can crack them open
and lick the feretone out, and the other two just get the left overs....

Nope, not at their face area, when they are around and I have the vacum
going, wich is a small hand held to clean the litter from the floor around
thier cage, they come running for it, try to chanse them with it, and they
run, go back to what you where doing and they are all over it...
as I said it's rather entertaining to watch, but since I actually care for
my litle critters, I don't do stupid things like that, even my dog goes nuts
over the vacum, she thinks you are going to use it on her, and we have
because she sheds alot, and likes the feeling of the vacum going through her
hair, so when it gets turned on she's right there, wagging her tail, just
waiting for it to go to work on her... Go figure..
