Questions about switching to Revolution - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page

I'm going to switch to Revolution instead of Advantage, and was
wondering a few things. How much do you use? After stopping Advantage,
how long do I need to wait until I start using the Revolution instead?

I think Revolution will be better, because of all the additional pests
it's supposed to prevent--heartworms in particular.

I wouldn't sweat adverse drug interactions, if that's what you're
worried about. Revolution (selamectin) and Advantage (imidacloprid)
work in slightly different ways, and theoretically only on an
arthropod's nervous system. Both have been given at 10Xs recommended
dosage w/o side-effects (except for selamectin in Collies for some
inexplicable reason). but if you want to be super safe wait a month.

My guys get Program year round, and starting in March or so I
supplement w/ Advantage as needed to get the adult fleas that trickle
in or gain entry on my friends' animals. Lots of fleas but no
heartworm here. That's not quite the same thing as mixing Advantage
and Revolution, but most insecticides are insect-specific and have
little effect on mammals.

Revolution has slightly out-performed Advantage in flea control, and
prevents heartworms as you note. However, it also kills existing
heartworms, which can kill the ferret host as well. If you're in
heartworm territory, have the vet check for them before administering
Revolution (or ivermectin) to your little guys.
