Seconded and thirded. MDF, oka medium density fiberboard, is a bad
material to use in the construction of ferret cages. I slide a new
piece under the cage and throw it out every 2-3 months. It sucks up
the pee and smells, but needs to be replaced often.

Go to the local paint store and talk to them about your needs. Get
paint that is child proof. Then there should be less worry if the
ferret dig or chew at the wood.
Personally I would stick to wire ramps and cover them with stick on
tiles or linoleum.
going agaist the norm here all my cages are wire, we linoleum in ones
we haven't yet converted from cat cages to ferret cages.
