Lola(lb) is doing very well. She's was nibbling and has now gotten
closer to biting, and I read somewhere that when they go to bite a
finger to shake it(no we aren't talking a violent crazy shake that
would hurt and or scare a bird) typically the scenario is that she's
sitting on my hand or shoulder or on my shirt and i'll be petting her
with a finger of my other hand which she likes but she'll occasionally
reach back and CHOMP! So far my method is working good, the slight
shaking distracts her and she lets go. she's not much of a fresh food
eater but we try anyway. she's curious about everything. i love
jigsaw puzzles and she was having fun walking over the pieces in the
box. she'll follow me around the house which is really cute and more
and more she'll chirp to get my attention. she's usually always taken
with me, sometimes she wants my bf but only for a little while then
she's ready to come back to me. at first she was constantly looking
for a way out of her cage and trying to see if she could squeeze out
to get to us when we are in the room and she's in her cage. she gave
up finally i think tho and realized that she's just gonna have to
start playing with her toys to entertain herself cuz she can't get out
of her cage unless i open the door. she does not like bathes. i put
her on the edge of a shallow dish of water and she wanted no part of
it. i dipped my fingers in the water and let drops of water drip from
them onto her and she was like HEY!!! yesterday bryan was staring at
her and started sitting up and then slouching up and down and then
lola started doing it too, that was really cute!! she also gets in my
hand right when i reach in her cage whereas at first she was timid but
not resistant. so we're becoming good friends!

What you are doing often works quite well to stop the bite. I have always
reinforced it with a loud NO, or NO BITE!. Birds use their beak like we use
our hands. They touch and feel everything with their beak. Often they will
test things. When they preen or play with each other they tell each other if
it's too hard.

My babies are perfect! Charli, the brown-head, is eating a Nutriberri
.. . . well, okay, perhaps eating half of it and tossing the other half
is more accurate. Sugar Franklin, the World's Most Spoiled Lutino
Cockatiel, is sitting on my knee, preening. The Bobbsey Twins (my two
gray male cockatiels) are doing some mutual preening over on the
parrot tower.

It's been the Molting Season From Hell around here the past couple of
weeks. Feathers on the floor, feathers in the cages, feathers
floating on the air, feathers on the couch, feathers on the furniture
.. . . and much crankiness, even with extra baths. Nothing for it, of
course, but extra treats and scritches.

I was out late last night and didn't get to spend any one-on-one time
with my babies, and I'm trying to make up for it tonight. Charli is
still pouting, but she's coming around. I might even be forgiven in
another hour or two. ;-)

It could be she's just trying to preen you in return. Anyway, I've found
that blowing at their faces makes them stop their beaking.

Not even kale?

I wonder how many pieces will go missing - shred, shred :-)

Are you using a phrase to get her to go in your hand? Mine have learnt
"step up" and two of them understand "time for bed". Most of them also
understand "no" and know their names.

Molting very heavily. We're actually having a proper summer in the UK (as
opposed to the usual rain) and the birds are looking a right mess now.

One of them's started bringing me nuts. I'm not sure if she's trying to
court me or just wants me to hold them for her to nibble.

Wow, I think you read my mind, I was just about to post some of the
stuff you mentioned!!! So the shaking didn't work much long than 2
days, i think she began to think we were playing rodeo or something.
so i blew in her face and she stopped biting so i'll continue to do
that. she's starting to bite pretty hard. she's not mad at me but we
both get frustrated cuz she really seems to wanna bite me and i really
seem to not want her to bite me so we're at ends with eachother for
the moment but we'll try to blowing, maybe she'll figure out i'm
trying to tell her no biting. I have not tried kale yet, that is my
next mission, i've never bought it before or needed it before so i'm
not real sure what i'm looking for but i'm sure it's not rocket
science. it may just take awhile for her to pay attention to fresh
foods. at any rate, the breeder had her on pro grow so i decided to
keep that up and ordered some to be delivered to me. the best deal
was a 5 lb bag, it made like probably 20 weeks worth of food for her!!
(it's a bird bread you bake)

i meant to ask about molting. yes i know they do it once a year but
is there a certain time of year they do it. she hasn't had her first
molt yet so what can i expect from that and also when can i expect
that. she's a lb btw. she was fully weaned on 6/11 just to give you
a time frame of how old she is.
