I am having trouble getting my new Quaker to eat his fresh vegetables. I
have offered him carrots, broccolli, cauliflower, green peas, cucumber, &
celery. The lady that I got him from said that he was eating them but I
can't get him too. She said that she fed him thawed frozen veggies instead
of fresh sometimes and he would eat that too. I also tried that with no
success. All he wants to eat for me is seed mix and his millett spray. I
also offered him some apple and banana but he wouldn't eat that either. From
what I have read, it isn't healthy for him to eat a seed only diet so this
concerns me. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

One thing that may work is this. Offer him the stuff you want him to eat in
the morning and afternoon, without any seed. At night before his bed time
offer him the seed mix for about an hour so he does not go to bed hungry.
Take the seed away, and the next day offer the fresh fruit and veggies
again. Try this for a few days and he may start eating the stuff you want
him to eat.

If at first you don't succeed blame someone else and seek counseling.

Firstly peresevere. Keep offering even if you have to throw it away a
couple of hours later. It also helps if yo have another bird who likes fruit
and veg and he can see it eating thhose things. I took in a mutilating
goffins a couple of months ago who refused point blank to eat anything other
than sunflower seeds. This week she has started munching on apple, carrot
and orange with real relish. I put this down to the fact that I placed
another bird in her cage, a wfa of sweet nature who adores fruit and veg. I
offer all my birds in turn a bit of whatever is going that day and say "here
ya go, mmmm that's nice eh" and do her last of all when she can see others
getting something they enjoy.
It has taken about 8 weeks to get her to sample stuff. So don't be
disheartened if it takes that long, just keep offering daily and making a
fuss of the other bird, and show her that fruit is something really special
and yummy.
