New Cockateil owner needs HELP - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
SaBreena
I got my first cockateil a yr ago this coming September (female gray) then
in december I got a male lutino from the same parents as my first one. Now
I have the parents and want to make sure that I am doing everything I can
to keep them happy and healthy. My question is this, when I got the
parents about a month ago they had 4 eggs in the nesting box. Last week we
found 2 more eggs in the bottom of the cage (both busted - one empty and
the other just contained a little fluid) well the ones in the nest are
still not hatched. I don't know how long it is supposed to take or what...
Like I said, other than buy them cockateil food and talking to them
everyday I have no clue what is supposed to transpire. I have taken the
eggs out and 3 of them feel like they are empty.. The 4th feels as if
there is something in it but the slightest movement and it feels like it
is dried up. I am not sure if this is normal or not. If someone can please
give me some suggestions or advise I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again.
P.S. they are not in the same cage.. the parents are in one cage and the
other 3 (the baby from the last batch) are in a seperate cage.

Do I understand you are breeding brother and sister together?
Have you got the book called 'cockatiels for dummies'? It should give you
heaps of information on how best to look after your birds.I assume you have
got this or other books as you have had tiels for over a year now. Is there
no info in any of your books?

It sounds that way doesn't it? She stated where are all the birds came from
except the last mention of "the baby from the last batch" (has she had more
than one clutch?) and the parent birds have had eggs in the nest the whole
time she's had them. But if that is the case, she should know how long it
takes for 'tiel eggs to hatch. So, she is either a complete dumb-ass of a
moron or a troll.

Probably too complicated for her.

I think (hope) you misread, I interpreted it as: after buying two siblings,
SaBreena then bought the parents of those siblings. It's the mother of the
two siblings that is laying eggs, not her daughter.

It's worrying that someone would sell a pair that are looking after a clutch
of eggs. Whatever happened to trying not to disturb them?
