Let your bird sleep in your bed?

Take your bird EVERYWHERE with you? ie grocery shopping, out to
dinner ect ect

Shower with your bird?

I do not think I'll be doing all that with Lola, I'd be scared to
death I'd roll over and crush her in bed, and I cant very well take
her into work with me.....that would get old with the boss man, and I
like my showers wayyyyy too hot for a bird. However I have every
intention of spending as much time as possible with her and taking her
with me on vacations and everywhere suitable for her to go inbetween.

btw..... Lola is a normal pf lovebird and is still just a baby.

With our first Macaw who loved naps, he could be allowed to take a nap with
one of us by putting his portable stand on the bed.
The Conure and Tiel will often take a shower with me, they some times
really love it. I like the water very hot, but the birds just like the mist
and steam. I will let the water hit me in the back, then hold them in front
of me. The fine mist they get is not too hot, and they will let me know if
they are interested. If they are they open their wings, and rub all over
getting all the feathers wet. Even when not ready for that they will sit on
top of the rod and just enjoy the steam. You can buy perches that will stick
to the wall cheaply. If the bird shows interest, pick up one and give it a
try.
Never taken them to the store, but like to take them to the beach and
such.

I don't but I have a sister-in-law that has a cockatiel and she sleeps and
showers w/her. She doesn't take her to work or to the grocery store though.

Your enthusiasm is very refreshing. One thing though, AFAIK, health laws will
not permit animals, other than seeing eye dogs, in grocery stores and
restaurants, etc.

WHat will happen when she has to spend time alone? You are making the
classic mistake IMO of spending too much time with your bird and making it
way too dependant upon you. In the end it makes for an unhappy bird. I am
assuming that eventually you might have kids? Well when your hands are full
with them, or promotion, or overtime and you cannot spend so much time with
your bird, what then?
Please please please, read at least *one* of the books I recommended. If
you cannot afford to buy one or more then perhaps the library might have
them?

I've taken all 6 of my LBs in the shower with me, one at a time,
and they seemed to have enjoyed it as did I. I like my showers quite
warm also but I turn it down when I have them with me.

Very bad idea, when I worked at the bird store we heard from at least one
owner a year who crushed their bird to death in their sleep, including
several lovebirds.

*cues chorus of 'I sleep with my bird all the time and never had a problem'*

*responds* Niether did those owners, some for many years, until they killed
their birds.

I never take my pets to a gocery store or resteraunt, illegal in the states
I've lived in. I do take my conure to the park (in a carrier) and other
places, though.

> Shower with your bird?

No, none of mine like showers. My conure loves a bowl of water, though.

Make sure your bird also learns to be alone, IMO it is possible for a parrot
to become overly bonded with thier owner, which can result in problems if
the owner is suddenly unable to give them as much time as they are used to
(birth of a baby, serious illness, new job, etc). I vary it, somedays I
might spend the entire day with my conure (the 'tiels and 'keets are not too
thrilled with my presence, LOL), other days I spend maybe a couple of
minutes. On adverage they get about 2 to 3 hours a day out of their cages,
and maybe half that actually with me.

(Currently they are getting no time with me, my internship doesn't allow it.
Bob Wheeler is taking care of them for my, Thanks Bob! It is kinda nice to
have a break from them, and I am looking forward to having my twits back in
August)

I see your point but for now, my work schedule prohibits me from
spending TOO MUCH time with her.... or at least I think. I've only
had her 2 days now so I'd feel wierd to comment as tho I've had her
for a super long time when in actuality we are just getting to know
one another. The first day she didn't do all that much but
yesterday(her second day) she really started to open up and get
situated. She was checking out her cage, seemingly trying to get out.
She may have just been checking for any weak spots that she or
something else could slip through. at any rate, when i got home i
took her out and she just loves people, loves being held too. doesn't
matter who really just so long as she's being petted or riding on your
shoulder. she also loves my hair! I have very long long hair and
yesterday i had it up in a half pony tail flippy thing and she
burrowed up in my hair! I had to get my boyfriend help get her out
but it was so funny, he said all he could see were some tail feathers
sticking out and a big lump under my hair!

but really as long as my pets are happy then i'm happy too!

Most nights: a CAG.
Occasionally: Scarlet macaw or BCC (1 bird max in bed)
In the past during bad weather: India Blue Peacock

On occasion the scarlet macaw goes out in public on my shoulder. Not
into shops unless the propritor is a personal friend who I know will
enjoy the bird.

> Shower with your bird?

About ever other show the scarlet macaw pushes the door open and
splashs in the water.

I don't think I'd want to do those things with a lovebird either. Larger
birds usually tollerate those things better.
