Cockatoo Beak 'clicking' - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Al Borowski
Hi,

I've had a sulphur crested cockatoo for a few years now, and just
discovered this group. My bird is about ten years old - this is his 2nd
home. Anyway, one thing has always puzzled me.

Whever I give the cockatoo any attention (or even look at him while he's
on my shoulder), he'll almost always tilt his head so he is looking at
me side on. Then he'll rapidly open and close his beak a dozen or so
times, and make slight 'clicking' noises. Is this typical behaviour in a
cockatoo?

cheers,

Al

Sounds like mating behavior; your bird just loves you. Two of our
birds (a lovebird and a green-cheeked conure) do this when they're
horny. Eventually they will regurgitate, but we usually put them back
in their cages before this happens.

My Umbrella Too does the same thing. It does seem to be related to mating
behavior.

Prater
I think that is her kissing sound...at least that's what I think Glacie is
trying to mimic.
