Budgie: strange cere - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Claudia Engel
I noticed that one of my budgies (a female) has a rather odd appearance to
her cere - she's just reached maturity and may be getting ready to lay an
egg, according to the vet. Her cere is not smooth and waxy, but rather thick
and almost crusty in appearance. The vet said it's not mites or anything
like that, but *might* be a hormonal response to the egg-laying process, but
she wasn't sure.

Has anyone else seen anything like this? Is it a cause for immediate concern?

Is your vet actually that incompetent? You either need to find a new vet or
accept the fact that you are a God damned moron for not finding one.

Here is a site where they talk about a crusty cere when
she is in breeding condition (look under "Sexual
Differences") which is not to be confused with scaly
face disease.

Ah, thank you very much. This is pretty much what the vet told me. I
suppose I'll keep an eye on her for a week or so and see that nothing
gets worse or changes, etc...
