1. anyone with any experience in oil supplements (flax oil, sesame
oil, omega3 & 6 oils) for dogs?
2. what about oil baths - how often, what oils, what procedures?

I've had positive experience with 1tblsp omega 3 oils, combined with 1tblsp
yoghurt fed every second day. I too feed science diet, but have fed other
brands, none of which seemed to effect the itching. I don't think I'd bath
them in oil, as that would block pores, and may make things worse. Also,
what about the mess around the place! I use 'Aloveen' produced by DERMCARE,
an oatmeal &aloe vera shampoo, which smells like muesli bars. mmmmm....
Wash the dog once then two weeks later with that shampoo, and then lengthen
the time between washings. This has solved my pup's itches. However, I don't
know about it's efficacy in controlling fungal problems.

PS: If both of your dogs have it, then there might be a contaminant in the
environment that is causing the problem, or perhaps they are reinfecting
eachother.

Are you sure your dog does not have allergies? If it has then the oil suppliments will help but will not erradicate. I would suggest allergy testing to aliminate potential diet allergy or allergies to common substances like house dust mites/grasses etc. Failure for the dog to empty the anal glands can also make a dog scratch.
