Jason and Holly Harper
Hi all,

We got a call Thursday night that one of the disabled people we know passed
away. Before we were called about her animals and how they wanted to get
rid of them because she wasn't able to take care of them. I guess her
ferret rarely got out of the cage, if at all. :( Ok...both of those things
are sad, but not as sad as what I'm about to tell you. I know not all of
you are rat fans, but hold tight anyway. After this lady passed away
Tuesday night, calls were being made to place the animals. We were called
to take the ferret and I didn't know about the rats at that time. Anyways,
we made a call to a lady that was going as a go between, and left a message.
She just called us back to inform us that we were not needed as the
mother/daughter care giver team decided to take matters into their own
hands. They allegedly fed one rat to a snake, fed one to the dog, flushed
baby rats down the toilet, and the rest of the gerbils, rats, hamsters and
ferret were hit with a shovel until they died. I'm appalled, heartbroken,
and sick. What do I do? I don't know these people, and I don't even have a
name or an address or anything to back up what they did. I'd love to report
them, but to who? Animal Control? The police? Ugh....I'm just sick to my
stomach.

Holly

p.s.
I'm sorry if the email is hard to understand...I'm just in shock.

Your mail is understandable enough :-(
I could kill those people ! Can't you get name and address from the
go-between ?

If the go-between won't give you the information, then report the
go-between and let the police or animal control get the
information from her. If the authorities are serious about doing
their jobs they won't tolerate withholding the facts of such an
incident. I wouldn't get my hopes up though.

Yup, what jim said. There are animal cruelty laws protecting animals adn it
sure sounds like they broke quite a few of them. Do it soon before the
'grieving family' possibly returns to their out of town homes. Good luck -

Celtic Ferret
This is why I have written instructions, names and phone numbers, in the
hands of my mother and one of my brothers of what to do with the animals if
both Dan and I died.
