Well, my girlfriend and I went to the Pet Supply store Saturday and
they had a few creatures, mainly fish and turtles and a bird..They
also had a cute little silver, one year old ferret, which I was eyeing
up while the salesperson talked about the bird. :) Having had ferrets
many many years ago, I have always had a thing for them since.
The only prob was was that the poor thing was laying there, shaking
terribly while she slept..The sales person picked her up and she was
very active and alert, but still shaking. She told us that the poor
thing was abused hence the price, because she bit sometimes. The price
they had on her was a whopping 129 or 150 (i forget which), but they
would let us have her (as well as her toys and food bowls etc) for
$30.00.
My girlfriend asked if we could have her and I said no because I
wasn't sure if she was sick or not and didn't want to bring home a
sick ferret to our four cats.
So we got in the car and came home..on the way we discussed it and I
said I would research it a little and all I could find was that she
had low sugar, had a nervous condition or was just plain cold.
I decided it was ok to bring her home., so we went back and got her.
The slaeswoman, who was very cool, was thrilled that we came back for
her.
So, we brought her home and the cats are just terrified of her. lol
They run like hell when 'Angie' comes near them, because she charges
sideways at them and makes her little ferret sound (chorteling? sp?)
and does her little dance. One cat now lives on the counter and the
top of the fridge..lol
She hasn't bitten any of them thankfully and she even has a bedroom
all to herself to loot around in. She has just nibbled me twice and I
yelled at her and she stopped. She even slept in my lap last night,
upside down with her little feet pointing out as if she were dead.
She stopped shaking completely (except when dreaming :) )and seems
well adjusted, tho slightly wary when we first enter the room, but I
think she will be ok. This next weekend I will take her to the vet to
make sure she is all ok.
I need to train her to use the corner litterbox, which looks like its
going to be tough..she doesn;t even go into the thing for some reason.
For an abused ferret, she seems to really love her new surrounding and
I can't wait to take her outside on a leash when warmer weather rolls
in again.
Its really great to have a ferret again! :)

Corner litter box - is it square or triangle? Throw it away if it is one of
those small triangle boxes. Have yet to see a ferret that actually uses
one. Ferrets like a big bathroom.
Evidently Miss Angie is not going to have any problems settling in. Not
only does she dook already, but she fell asleep in your lap.
Amazing what other people will "throw away", isn't it?

Kylie uses the small triangle box in her travel cage. I think it's because
she thinks she's 'camping' LOL She doesn't do it without her butt dancing
back and forth about 20 times before she lets go......but at least she does
use it.

OK - I now have bouncing ferret bottoms running through my mind.
My guys prefer a shoe box in their travel cage over a corner box.

You're quite welcome. The best overall ferret ownership manual is called
"Ferrets For Dummies" by Kim Schilling (available on ebay or half.com very
reasonably priced). It's even more complete I think than Ferret Central.
Welcome to the group, Christopher. We won't expect you to remember
everything all at once, but your ferret's health and possibly his life will
depend on it......but you already knew that :-)

Well, it is funny to watch because it's just her back half that is doing all
the jumping around and flopping back and forth ;-) Like it just can't
quite find the right place....tee hee.
