I've found an H style harness to be best. I have a large number of Velcro
fastened harnesses from Warmfuzzy and some cat harnesses from the local pet
store. After 7 or 8 yrs the Warmfuzzy harnesses Velcro seems to wear out.

Hagen brand "H" harness with the push button quick-latch. It is nylon and
completely adjustable. Put it on in the house, then keep adjusting it until
you find that fine line where it will stay on and be effective without being
too tight. You should be able to get a finger between the ferret's body and
the harness when it's in place. Once you're sure you have it fit properly
to your ferret, you should be able to take the ferret outside relatively
confident that he/she is going to stay in it.
I have been happy that Kylie's harness fit well more than once while out
walking. Every now and then you will get a loose dog that seems to appear
from nowhere sneak up quickly on the ferret while you're walking - they may
or may not bark to announce their arrival. IF your harness is fitted
properly, that leash can be yanked up and quickly get the ferret up off the
ground and safely into your arms in time to save it's life.
Take plenty time in the house making sure the fit is perfect (but doesn't
impede their breathing ability) before you take your ferret outside for best
results. Have fun!
p.s. Check harness each and every time before going outside because a
ferret's weight does vary. Hagen harness is very very easily adjusted, so
there's no reason not to do it each and every time.
