Hi Can anyone help me on what is wrong with my mothers budgie ?
I has, what I can only describe as an enlarged bottom / belly.
It is almost a growth in appearance but the budgie up to now had appeared
quite happy and in good health.
The main problem is that, due to the growths size, when the bird poo's if
tends to collect on top of the growth and greats quite a mess on the poor
thing. Also the size of the lump is now starting to catch on his feet or
perch and causing to bleed slightly.
The poo is also slightly runny.
I've tried searching the net but I cannot find anything else like this and
the local vet will not look a birds.
Anyone any advice or ideas ?
Regards,
Len

It could be many things, a tumor, a prolapse cloaca, etc...
If you tell us your general location someone here might be able to point you
towards a good vet.
Sadly, nobody can diagnose and treat your bird online.

You are telling lies. Any vet in the UK cannot refuse to look at a sik
animal. If you let me know what area you are in I will tell you where
your nearest avian vet is. Nobody here can diagnose over the internet
without seeing the bird. It needs to see a vet. If you don't want to
spend money on doing the right thing, give the bird to someone who will.
If you are close enough to me in Cambridgeshire, I will take the bird
and get it the treatment it needs.

Marco he is lying. Over here, no vet can refuse to see a sick animal.
It is illegal and he stands in danger of being struck off.
My bet is that he cannot be bothered to take the bird to a vet, or
doesn't want to pay for something which only costs a few quid.

Lenny:
It may very well be a tumour. Budgies are prone to them. If the lump
is catching on its feet, it sounds awfully big. Are there any avian
veterinarians in your area? Have you tried doing a Google search which
may indicate avian vets in your state/province?
This isn't something you can deal with yourself. Your budgie should be
seen by a vet who can diagnose the problem properly and suggest
treatment which may include surgery. If the lump is too big to remove
or is pressing on vital organs, and if the bird's quality of life is
compromised to a large degree, euthanasia may be the most humane thing.
