Just new to this. Very interesting NG.
If I may ask, can small parrots eat cheese?

Yes, you may ask.

Our green cheek conure loves it. Give her a Cheez-It and you'll
have a friend for life. We allow her a little bit, once in a while.

All our birds, caique, macaw, tiel are crazy for dairy, especially cheese &
ice cream. They especially like sharp cheddar. My tiel will even drink the
milk remaining in a cereal bowl, like a cat with his little pink tounge. We
try to limit dairy products as supposedly they don't have the enzymes to
digest it but they do love them and clearly regard them as a special treat.
I have never seen any stomach upset result.

Yes. Just try to ensure that the cheese is not too high in salt or fat. You
can buy low fat cheddar, and low fat cottage cheese is an excellent source
of calium.

I think the important thing is the form of the cheese. I wouldn't give a
slice from a block only because it'd be pretty gummy for the beak but you
could as stated, use a cheese it or a cheese cracker. Small amounts on
account of the high salt and preservatives, though.

Our Macaw LOVES hard cheese, any kind. The Conure likes it but does not go
as crazy for it as the B&G, the Tiel never has shown an interest. As long as
it's a little as a treat, give it a try.

With a dry cheese like a cheddar our birds have no trouble eating it
right out of a claw or in a dish (tiel). They scratch their beaks
afterward but it's not a problem for them. Melted cheese presents more
of a problem for them but they eventually get it off or we help them.
It doesn't stop them from eating it enthusiastically though.
