We got ourselves 2 bugies 3 weeks back which were a delight
to watch, they were tamed in 3 days basically by hand feeding.
They began to fly around the bedroom, sitting on our shoulders,
head etc and lost all fear of us. they began playing with us.
Unfortunately, since yesterday they've been distant, cold and
are scared of us, as though they were never tamed and as if
they've forgotten what we've been through.
Their appetities are normal, they are bright but distant.
Does anyone know what one should do ?
thanks
Manik

Has anyone been in the house (children, etc) who could have harassed
/ scared them without your knowledge?

Change your hair? Wearing glasses now? I had to start over almost fresh
with my pionus when I started wearing glasses. The conure gave me the look
for a bit but settled in quick (she's easily bribed with pine nuts)
Fights with the SO or Mom or anybody can do it too. I've found raised
voices don't go over well.
Call a vet if you cant figure out what changed. Birds hide illness till the
last possible minute and lots of times you wont know they are sick till too
late.

Thanks for responding Andrea. It's quite impossible for anyone else to
access the house when we're not around (my wife and i are the only ones
with the keys).

Where is their cage situated? In front of a window? If so, your
budgies may have been frightened by what they saw outside. Large
trucks, birds flying overhead, large trees swaying in the wind ... any
one of these things may have scared them. My mother's budgie (who was
previously owned by someone else before coming to my mom) is very
nervous when taken to the window. We suspect that the budgie had an
unpleasant experience in its previous home, most likely the cage being
positioned in front of the window all day.
