Introducing four ferrets to a 3 year old cat - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Lolo Ferrari
We have 4 ferrets, 2 hobs - 2 gills.

They are coming up to a year old. We have two old (14+) cats that don't
like 'em much.

We have a 3 year old cat that seems interested - and it doesn't look like
she wants to kill them. I'd love them to be friends, can anyone advise?

Thanks in advance,

Lolo

We have 2 Bengal cats, which live in the same house as our 8 ferrets. Most
of the time they just ignore each other, sometimes the ferrets decide on a
bit of sport and try to nip the back legs or tail of the cats, which usually
results in a bit of growling and hissing, and the cat practicing it's
vertical take off routine onto either a table, chair, or surface. For a
brief moment the ferret looks around to see where the cat has gone, and then
in ferret style decides that it wasn't really very much fun, and wanders off
to find something else to do.

Every so often the ferrets seem to be having so much fun, that the cats need
to try and join in, but then just hiss and growl and get annoyed that the
ferrets don't care, as cat don't know how to play like ferrets.

The best is when the cat climbs into the Ferret cage to nick the food, and
the ferrets trap them in there, cat has panic attack, and ferrets just look
bemused.

Basically they tend to live in harmony, although not friendly bliss.

And I thought our household were all mad!!
Yes we had 3 cats varying from 21year old to 7 year old when we got our
first ferret - we ended up with 3 of each. As the previous reader said, the
cats were chased by the ferrets but tolerated them - there was never any
sign of real aggression!
