Of course I've still been quite tearful while letting the fuzzbutts out.
Well...I guess to be honest I've been tearful regardless of whether the
ferrets are around me or not. But anyways, my story has to do with the
ferrets. I was feeling sad and looking at the cage and missing George,
while Kolby and Stormy were out playing. Kolby must've sensed this and he
brought me his toy mouse. Not once, but twice. I thought he just wanted to
play, but he didn't chase it like he normally does. I threw it once and he
brought it back to me. That's unusual for him. It was almost like he was
saying "I know you're sad, but my mouse makes me happy so it'll work for
you." He's a sweet boy. The night we put George to sleep I took Kolby out
of the cage and he started licking my nose...I think he knew then. But
then, this particular ferret has been tuned into my soul since I saw him in
Petco. Anybody else have an experience like this?

Yeah, I think they can tell when you're sad or upset, and do try to
comfort you. I have two ferrets who are pretty hyper, not "lap ferrets"
at all, and they act like you're killing them if you try to hold or pet
them for any amount of time. Anyway, I had a miscarriage last summer and
was stuck in bed for a couple days, and when I got home from the
hospital, both of the ferrets climbed up in the bed and snuggled up to
me, and Missy kept nudging up to my face & giving me kisses, like she
was trying to cheer me up.

yeah -- I swear sometimes they know more than they pretend to...
Whenever I am particularly upset about something, or just really
depressed, Weasel picks up on it right away and will beg to be picked
up. Then, he licks my nose and ears. Otherwise he will have nothing
to do with me unless I have a snack or something. Another one of the
critters, Emmet, will crawl up into bed, and put his nose on my chin
and then fall asleep, as if to say "hey scott, it's not so bad!" .
Some ferrets just show an abundance of love for their human pets once
in a while. Makes up for the poop in the corner.
