George's final update - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Jason and Holly Harper
I just wanted to let you all know that we had to put George to sleep
tonight. His lumps started to come back even with the use of Pred. Friday
he wasn't able to poop, then over the weekend he wasn't able to pee and he
started to cry at every potty attempt (which there were many). The way Doc
explained it was that his lymphnodes in his back where swollen and his
bladder was swollen with lumps growing on it, and somewhere in between were
his intestines. I know I'm not explaining this very well, but my heart is
broken. She didn't feel like there was a very good prognosis. Draining his
bladder would've been an option, but it wasn't going to take care of the
problem in the long run. We were looking at chemo but chances are we
would've only had him for a couple months. We're still awaiting results on
the histopath, but it really doesn't matter now. He'll be cremated and his
ashes returned to us.

Thanks for all the prayers...hug your fuzzies.

I'm sooo sorry to hear about George, but bless you for making that difficult
decision and may you now rest knowing he is no longer in pain. He was lucky
to have you looking after him. Rest in peace, little George.

I'm so sorry for your loss. George had to know how much he
was loved, and somewhere he's happy that the hurt is gone.

Thank you all for your condolences. We really appreciate it. If anyone
would like to take a look, I have some pictures of George up on my website.
I'm kind of numb right now. I know we did the right thing, but you know
sometimes you go through things you could've maybe done differently. I
guess that's just part of grieving. :-\

I'm so sorry, but know you made the right decision for George out of your
great love for him. I'm sure he would have asked you to do it if he could
speak.

Sorry to hear it. Didn't sound so good from the beginning, and it's
good your vet gave you the "go/no go" decision. Seems to me you made
the right one.

Is there Ferret heaven?
jumpingmouse & kylie
If there aren't ferrets in heaven, I don't want to go.

Absolutely agree. But I wonder....if there's ferrets, then there's gotta be
corners in heaven, right? ;-)

p.s.
We got George's ashes back on Monday. They were in a beautiful handcarved
wooden box. I had no idea that we'd be getting back something so beautiful.

You betcha - self-cleaning ones! :-) So glad George's ashes came back in
a nice container. I have a friend who sent her ferret for crematiion and it
came back in a cheapie plastic container and she was not happy. They should
have a catalog where you can pick different ones before they even get sent
off for cremation.

Wow!! That would be even better!

Me too. I was wondering what I was going to put his ashes in, and was
pleasantly surprised by the box. You want to hear something really bad
though, we had to have my step-dad cremated 3 years ago and his ashes
arrived in a cardboard box through the mail!! The mail man left him sitting
there in front of the back door! Truly disrespectful if you ask me, but how
was he to know where the box was from? But then to only have him sent in a
cardboard box (the ashes in plastic) is pretty tacky if you ask me.

WOW, that would be quite upsetting. I can't even believe it's legal
actually. I would think that the place that cremated him would have more
respect for him than to do that. I'd raise some hell for sure...and I don't
toooo often do that.

Can you just see our little fuzzies, with wings on their back? You are right, they are definitely up there...

Remember the "Sound of Music" song? "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens..." They certainly missed crazy jumping ferrets.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss - I am sure you will never forget George's cute adventures. You did the right thing - chemo would have only prolonged his suffering, you did what was best for him. My thoughts are with you...

Hard to believe isn't it? I know we were way to upset at the time to even
raise a stink, but the more ya think about it the more upset you get. I
dunno. Makes me think twice about having a loved one cremated. But, at
least Georgie was taken care of.
