Friday evening Sadie and Riley came out for their nightly romp. They both
disappeared after a nice frolic, with mum & dad, the cats and dogs, as per
usual. They normally go sleep someplace then reappear to play more and eat.

I didn't see Saidie again until last night. We had torn up the house
looking for her, been knocking on doors over three streets, put up signs,
and prayed alot. Then my neighbour called me at about 7:30. All I said was
'do you have a ferret?'... she hesitated and said 'I'm so sorry.' Out the
door I flew. She had Sadie wrapped in a towel and holding her like a baby.
She found her in her backyard, when her dogs led her to a tarp.

My poor baby was cold and stiff. Only one little bloody spot on her
belly, but her back was broken and she appeared to have internal injuries.
Sadie, having been raised by and with dogs, didn't know to be afraid. We
think one of my neighbour's dogs picked her up and shook her. It looked
like her fur had been wet.

My heart is broken, and I'm crying as I type this. I pray that it was
quick and that Sadie didn't suffer.

I love you my sweet little Sadie

Oh, I'm sooo sorry to hear about this. So sad. Be sure you figure out how
she got out of the house so you don't have another tragedy. No doubt Riley
will mourn her also, so lots of extra attention for him, if not taking him
somewhere to let him pick out another cagemate. Often when one cagemate
dies, the other will fall ill and die shortly afterwards of broken heart.
That's what happened to my boys. Best of luck to you. So sorry to hear your
bad news.

I'm sure it was quick. Dogs don't waste much time.

> I love you my sweet little Sadie

It always bothers me when caring owners lose their animals, and I've
no doubt you're the caring type. You can't cover all the angles when
the animal is a ferret, tho. Sometimes it seems like their mission in
life is breaking your heart. Thing is, if you take the intractability
out of the ferret you also take out the fun.

In a place of rainbows,Sadie dances and plays. She is smiling, because she left
with a heart full of love. Now a new bright star is shining in the night
sky.Watch carefully and you'll see her winking.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss Julia. Just know she loved you and she
is in heaven now playing and frolicking with the other ferrets.

<hugs to APF>

Thank you for all your kind words, cards, and thoughts. No one that doesn't
have ferrets can really understand how they can worm/weasel there way into
your hearts. I'm very thankfull that I'm part of such a wonderful and
diverse group of people as APF.

Riley seems to be doing ok. He doesn't mope about, and he eats without
coaxing... but he tends to stay closer to his slaves than he did when he had
Saide to irritate.

The keeper (hubby) wants to wait a bit longer before finiding a new friend
for Riley, but has said he's willing to go on a day trip to a shelter/rescue
to give a fert a chance for a loving home. And, this is from the man that
didn't like or want a ferret. Yet more evidence of the magic these
fuzzbutts possess.

Again thank you for all the comfort you have provided!

Julia
