Ben Stiller needed rabies jab after ferret bit him
Ben Stiller needed a rabies shot after being bitten by a ferret on the set
of Along Came Polly.
He was holding the ferret in a final scene with Jennifer Aniston when it but
him on the chin, reports Channel4.com.
Stiller said: "I didn't do anything I swear. We were doing this final scene
where I come running after Jennifer and I'm holding the ferret.
"He did this crazy turn around thing and he literally attached himself to my
chin and then he didn't let go. He was holding onto my chin. I had to get a
rabies shot. I didn't provoke him at all.
"Their teeth are sharp, like razors. I mean they're rat-like creatures. It
was a horrible experience."

i had read this earlier today. Just what we need some famous actor saying it
bit for no reason....... Maybe he wasn't informed how to hold the ferret etc
and that is why he got bitten.

Head bites tend to worry health officials whether the animal's been
vaccinated or not. The closer the bite is to the brain, the shorter
the incubation period. For some reason they get particularly nervous
if the animal's a ferret. It's a widespread, unreasoning, unsupported
bias found throughout US public health departments. A least Stiller
was reasonable. He could have insisted the ferret be killed and tested
for rabies, thereby avoiding the series of rabies shots. They're not
nearly as painful as they used to be, but it's still 3-4 trips to the
hospital and a $1500 medical bill.
My question is whether the ferret had a history of biting. I'd assume
not, but as you note some people aren't too bright. It's also possible
the ferret was ill. Animals that are sick or in pain may bite
unexpectedly, tho I've not seen the behavior in ferrets. My non-biters
don't/didn't bite, period. They've been thru ECE, I've accidentally
stepped on a tail/paw or two, and the vet has done all sorts of
miserable things to them including teeth scaling.
They never bit nobody,

And now, for the last couple of days, he's complaining about it twice an
hour on the TV Guide Channel. If the clips they're showing from the
film are a good indication of how the critter was being used, maybe it
SHOULD have bitten him, and anyone else who got near it. (And people
thought the Verizon commercial was bad publicity for ferrets! Not even
in the same ballpark with THIS little fiasco. B-)
